Hysteroscopy for Abnormal Bleeding: A Patient-Friendly Guide

By Dr. Sarbani Ghosh

If you have irregular or heavy bleeding, a hysteroscopy can help us look directly inside the uterus and identify causes like polyps, submucous fibroids, or other changes. In many cases, treatment can be done during the same procedure.

Why hysteroscopy is advised

It is commonly recommended for abnormal uterine bleeding, recurrent miscarriage evaluation, suspected uterine polyps, and some fertility-related assessments.

Preparation and procedure

Your doctor will guide you on timing (often after periods), medications, and any tests required beforehand. The procedure may be done as a day-care process depending on your situation.

Recovery

Mild cramps or spotting can occur. Most patients return to routine activities quickly, but individual advice depends on what was done during the hysteroscopy.
