Hysteroscopy
Hysteroscopy involves inserting a hysteroscope through the vagina and cervix into the uterine cavity. It allows doctors to see the lining of the uterus on a screen and, if needed, perform certain procedures during the same session.
Types of Hysteroscopy
Diagnostic Hysteroscopy:
Used to examine the uterus for abnormalities.
Often done for women with abnormal bleeding, infertility, or repeated miscarriages.
2. Operative Hysteroscopy:
Used to treat problems found during diagnostic hysteroscopy.
Indications (Why it's done)
Abnormal uterine bleeding (heavy periods, bleeding between periods)
Postmenopausal bleeding
Uterine fibroids or polyps
Infertility or repeated miscarriages
Retained products of conception after miscarriage
Removing intrauterine devices (IUDs)
Investigating abnormal findings on ultrasound
