What is Abnormal Uterine Bleeding (AUB)?

Abnormal uterine bleeding refers to any bleeding from the uterus that is irregular, excessive, prolonged, or unusual in timing. It affects many women and can occur at any age..

Types of Abnormal Bleeding

  • Menorrhagia : Heavy or prolonged periods.

  • Metrorrhagia : Bleeding between periods.

  • Polymenorrhea : Periods occur too frequently (<21 days apart).

  • Oligomenorrhea :Infrequent periods (>35 days apart).

  • Amenorrhea :Absence of periods (for ≥3 months).

  • Postmenopausal bleeding :Bleeding after menopause.

    Common Symptoms

  • Bleeding lasting more than 7 days.

  • Soaking through a pad/tampon every 1–2 hours.

  • Clots larger than a quarter.

  • Bleeding between periods.

  • Fatigue, dizziness, or anemia-related symptoms.
